Preparing taxes is an evolving task with laws changing and certain things applying in some states but not in others. I have to be on my toes!
In the off season last year I achieved the status of becoming an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. This is the highest credential they award and the studying was pretty intense.
I can now fix tax issues for my clients in years where I didn’t complete the return. Previously I’d give you all the information you needed to talk to the IRS and you had to make the call. Now, as an EA, I get to make that call for you.
Here’s what the IRS says about Enrolled agents on their site:
“An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service by either passing a three-part comprehensive IRS test covering individual and business tax returns, or through experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled agent status is the highest credential the IRS awards. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
Enrolled agents, like attorneys and certified public accountants (CPAs), have unlimited practice rights. This means they are unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and which IRS offices they can represent clients before.”
I am excited to offer this elite service to my clients!
